when should you apply for an EFI Firmware and how to  update your intel-based Macintosh computer, the following steps are suggested.

Does your computer need EFI Firmware

Go to system profile and check your current version of EFI Firmware.
Then compare the new updates with current EFI Firmware version.
You do not need EFI Firmware if the runing version of EFI Firmware matches to the new updates and if does not match the listed on updates then you should update by folloing the given steps.

Installation process

For installation of EFI Firmware you should quit all open applications.
Download the needed updates for your computer by clicking on appropriate link in the list of EFI Firmware updates.
Downloader will send installer to the specified location or in general download folder.
Safari will notify you if you are using safari > preferences.
Double click the discimage in Safari Preferences to mount it and then press on pkg files. The Firmware updates will be started.
Instruction will appear on screen and wil ask you to shut down for further proceeding so click over shutdown. Your computer will be shutdown but updates installation still requires one more step.
Restart your computer and its screen will appear black for one minute but do not have to disturb power. Then with long tone computer screen will turn gray and status bar will show that updates are under progress.
